There is much to say about the new generation of eco-friendly, baby-boomers "who refuse retirement solutions that keep them there in abundance. Many had to live in the cities that created their jobs ... with smog and crime. The years have passed, children were protected as much as possible in closed communities and the day arrived to take a look at "what's coming."
The idea of traveling that facinated their parents has less appeal to us baby boomers. Cruise ship horror stories, and the risks have become part of travel that has taken the shine off what their parents were very satisfied with. In addition, many have traveled extensively in their work and have had expensive holidays in faraway places with strange sounding names anyway.
Freedom does not event have thew attraction it had for previous generations. Many baby boomers have been linked with web-based businesses and were able to work from home from time to time, at their own pace. This usually means several hours for most of them, but more personal freedom was avilable.
Therefore, this new generation wants to get out of Dodge and work with their hands. It is true that they do not want to be looked after or sit around the fire, they want the challenges that match their ideals.
Peace and quiet are high on the list of priorities of many baby boomers. living more simply is calling. "zero footprint" is a phrase most of us were unfamiliar with a decade ago. If we had heard it, it was with disgust that have considered living without being connected to a reliable source of energy. However, todays and future retirees are often very interested in solar panels and batteries. Conservation and personal independence rank high.
In addition, unique designs for houses that circumvent the need for heating and air conditioning are coming to the fore. The strawbale house is a living miracle. The thick walls of straw bales have a dry "skin."I recently viewed one that was plastered with a mixture of mud and cement Adobe. Contractors and architects are on the bandwagon as this trend spreads. Books and seminars on strawbale building are in high demand.
And then there are the land ships. These are energy-efficient homes dug into the hillside and constructed with care to offer shelter without messing with the environment. I went to one that seemed to be incredibly welcoming.
Our Baby Boomers want a new type of challenge and most of them are getting into organic gardening, another science that offers them simplicity and increased well-being. They want to grow what they eat . There is usually plenty of room to do so because they are buying land. This movement towards healthy living is not a fad, but what they want for the future. They are willing to work long and hard.
You find in their homes, battery, laptops! After all, life must go on! The baby boomers ensure that things that are important to the heart are included. It has never been about denial. In the absence of a better description, I would say that their ethical development is "to create a simple life."
If you have the opportunity to read about this movement and / or have the opportunity to visit someone who is immersed in it, not pass it up. Rome is being rebuilt again.
